Who do you think the next HC will be, not who do you want it to be... - Utts - 12-05-2017

I'd be interested to see who people thing the next head coach will be, not who they want it to be. I guess it's possible it's the same person, but I'm guessing in most cases it's not.

Who do I think it will be?
Fat Paulie. He's been here since 2005, which means the Brown family has effectively adopted him. They will boast about continuity, and it makes it real easy for them to retain the rest of the staff. I think it's a slam dunk.

Okay, who do I wish it would be?
This is hard, because I'm inclined to overlook people that in my opinion, would never come here. However, I'll throw reason out the window, and just put down my favorite - regardless of likelihood. Matt Patricia. The guy has an engineering degree, and has worked under the greatest HC of all-time, since like 2005. So he's super smart, is intimately familiar with the blueprint for success in NE, and doesn't look like he'll take shit from anybody. The sexy pick is McDaniels, but Beaker could probably produce as their OC, with Tom Brady at QB.

Some one with the team now. Inexpensive

Whomever Mike is comfortable with, so likely someone not outside the organization, and PG would fit the bill. He'll want a familiar face that will work cheap and within the constraints he wants. Honestly, at this point he could name Katie's oldest daughter HC and it wouldn't shock me in the slightest.

1. Paul Guenther

Or

2. Hue Jackson

In that order.

Whomever Katie selects. I hope it's not anyone already a part of the organization.

I'm thinking Hue Jackson.

If you had asked me how I felt about that back in 2015 I would have been alright with it. But when a coach goes 1-31, that's just bad. Not even the Browns are that untalented/snakebitten. I'd bring him back as a position coach, or maybe even OC, but I'd rather just have a completely overhauled coaching staff.

Knowing our luck and the way things are going..... Marv.

someone who isn't on our radar

They'll likely slide Guenther in that position or Hue Jackson.

I'd say that if it isn't Lewis there's a 90% chance it's one of those guys.

I'd wager we roll into 2018 with Lewis or Geunther as our HC. I don't know how the feelings are about Hue since in Mike Brown's mind he somewhat not really offered Hue the HC job here and he turned it down in order to go to a division rival. I could see Hue Jackson being a persona non grata after that move.

In summation:

1. Marvin - because history, also we can convince ourselves the 0-3 start was Zampese's fault and that we got jobbed by the refs against the Steelers and should totally be 10-2 right now.

2. Geunther - promote from within, has been here since 05 and is as seamless a transition from the Marvin Lewis era as Mike would want (and he'd likely think that's a good thing, unlike us)

3. Someone off the radar who is very disappointing ala Dave Shula

Marvin Lewis will be extended after the season. He gets more extensions than Viagra.

I hate fat Marv as much as anyone but he’s not the head of the snake.

It’ll be Guenther and more of the same but slightly different.

I’ll be happy to see change for the sake of change though because Marvin is just ass.

Hue Jackson.

It will likely be Hue if he's fired or Paul Alexander if he's not.

Long shot is an outside candidate (no, I don't consider Hue "outside"). I'd aim low and say Josh McDaniels would be a "realistic" outside name.

I don't think Josh will be a super popular candidate due to his past with Denver, so we might have a shot.

The hot college coaches, and hot coordinators like LaFleur, Nagy, Shurmer and Frank Reich will probably have more choices.

Good Lord people. The last time the Bengals hired a head coach, they went outside the organization and they did a good job. Marvin turned this thing from the worst franchise in PRO SPORTS to a team that actually was extremely consistent over a 7 year stretch.

This will be another outside hire. I would bet my bottom dollar that we bring in a guy that has a rep for being extremely disciplined as the knock on Cincy being sloppy and undisciplined is starting to resonate.

At this point, I have no idea who that would be, but one guy that could be a great fit is Mike Vrabel

RE: Who do you think the next HC will be, not who do you want it to be... - Hammerstripes - 12-06-2017

There is a ZERO percent chance of Hue Jackson coming back here as a head coach with his 1-31 record in Cleveland.

RE: Who do you think the next HC will be, not who do you want it to be... - Shake n Blake - 12-06-2017

Tbh, I have no idea why people are so high on McDaniels. The man has been a colossal flop outside of New England.

11-17 record as Head Coach in Denver. He pushed to draft Tim Tebow in the 1st round.

He followed this up with 1 season as OC in St Louis, where coached them to rankings of 32nd in points and 31st in yards. This was with a prime Steven Jackson, a pretty decent group of receivers (Brandon Lloyd, Brandon Gibson, Lance Kendricks) and 10 games of Sam Bradford. They averaged a lowly 12.1 points/game and Bradford posted the worst rating of his career.

So to sum this up, he's a loser as HC, he can't identify talent (important here), and he can't even coach offense without Brady and Bill holding his hand.

RE: Who do you think the next HC will be, not who do you want it to be... - Hammerstripes - 12-06-2017

The more I start to think about this, the more I think Mike Vrabel will be our next coach.

He's played in New England, has done a great job as DC in Houston and has some Ohio ties being a Buckeye.

He's highly thought of around the league and I think he would put together a pretty good staff as well.

And even more important, he saw firsthand the difference that a good rookie QB can make on a team.

Someone within the team. Unfortunately.
