Beat the Cubs again today. This is getting to be fun.

What about that throw to the plate he made last game?  I had no idea his arm was that good.  That was a HUGE play at a crucial point in the game.

If Billy could hit .250 I would think he would be great with all the other attributes, including his good arm.  But hovering around .200 is not good.  Now Gennett problem is real in terms of his fielding problems.  I love Gennett.  Fans at the park kept cheering him even after the two errors.  I just hope he could play LF, if they decide to sign him to a new deal.  I think Senzel at 2nd would be best next year.

The Billy situation is this:  Do the red's keep him or move him?  Both Schebler and Duval play great defense.  Winker isn't going anywhere.  The thing with Billy, he brings energy and his defense is amazing.

I think that is 5 in a row against the Cubbies.  Their fans must be going nuts.

RE: 2018 Reds Season Thread - fredtoast - 07-07-2018

Matt Harvey starting today.

Don't want to curse hium by making a thread about this, but over his last three starts he is 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA.

It has been almost a month since he allowed more than 3 earned runs in a start (June 8).

Don’t look now, but Billy over the last 30 days is .274/.352/.347 and 11 SBs. So, avg over .250 and on base over .350. Did he give up switch hitting?

He is still switch hitting.

And he has hit .382 in his last 21 games.

The Reds just went into the 9th inning down 4-0 and put 7 runs on the board with 2 outs against the Indians closer. And,

Joey Votto had the winning hit with a base clearing 3 run double into the gap in right center field. WOW

No win counts any more than any other win but some are just sweeter. Tonight was incredible. A seven run 9th. Damn. I believe they are now 10-2 against the AL. Don't break this up, please.

I'm crossing my fingers that they keep the bulk of this team intact and get some help at starting pitching without gutting it.

This team isn't that far away ! With a true ace starter and perhaps one more 10-15 game winner they're right there.

Despite what some will say they've got to quit the prospects forever game !!!!!

I'm back and forth regarding Scooter. Maybe if they move him out to LF once Senzel is called up next season (or possibly late this season? Big Grin )

But the idea of getting a premium prospect is awfully enticing... But you're right. Our actual position players are ready to compete for a World Series. And our bullpen is pretty damn good.

We really are 1 or 2 starting pitchers away from a playoff team at this point, assuming that these last 60 to 70 games haven't been a fluke.

I'd like to see em keep scooter but I'm with ya on the move to the outfield. Scooter isn't exactly BP at 2nd, haha

With just a true ace starter and nothing else they could probably put a scare in the wildcard teams this season. Ace, Harvey, Descalfani, Mahle, and Romano could be decent rotation.

RE: 2018 Reds Season Thread - grampahol - 07-11-2018

The thing with all young players is you never really know if they're going to string together a great season or if they're all going to fall flat.
Even the worse player on any club is probably better than 90% of the minor league system in most cases. None of them made it to the big leagues by being lousy players. Teams just don't promote their worse minor leaguers to the big club. They try to bring up the best.
Think about a teams "ace".. There's an extremely fine line between the ace and the number 5 and none of them last forever.

If they can hold this club together through next season I think we're going to have a really tough club to contend with.  Just think of how sweet it would be to have the Brewers, Cubs, Cards and Pirates all asking the same fundamental question. WTF happened to knock us out of contention? Answer: The Reds!
Even sweeter would be to have both clubs, Reds and Bengals competing for championships at the same time. That's becoming a real possibility.

Blandino pitched an inning and did better than 19 runs and has a knuckler to his repitroir.. (actually an easy pitch .just push the ball instead of flinging it..)

19-4.. jeeez.. Oh well . Get it out of the way

It seems the Indians were pissed, haha

RE: 2018 Reds Season Thread - CJD - 07-12-2018

The Reds have 3 players in the top 10 in MLB in On Base Percentage.

1 Mike Trout LAA .455
2 Mookie Betts BOS .439
3 Joey Votto CIN .424
4 Freddie Freeman ATL .404
5 Lorenzo Cain MIL .402
6 Eugenio Suarez CIN .401
7 Jose Altuve HOU .399
8 Aaron Judge NYY .399
9 Shin-Soo Choo TEX .399
10 Jesse Winker CIN .398

Figured we needed a pick me up after that game haha.

The Rainey kid needs to go back to Louisville. He now has a 24.43 era.

Update: Rainey sent back down, thank god. Reds lost 7 of 8 games he pitched in and he gave up 19 runs in 7 innings. Replaced him with Brice, not sure that’s too great either. Reds have lost 22 of 25 games Brice has pitched in.

He short hops throws from second. He's stated he has a sore shoulder. Putting him in the outfield would probably not be the best idea. Trading scooter is the right move, considering that means Senzel would probably have to go to ANOTHER position yet again. And with his sore shoulder, I am not sure you can count on this level of production for very long. Seems like a pretty big gamble IMO. But it's tough since he's a hometown kid who loves the Reds. Won't be mad either way, but hope they have a plan for Senzel if they do. Because second base we're actually pretty deep in.

How's Choo still getting on base like that? Unreal. Dude is on the back 9 and still a pretty good baseball player.

RE: 2018 Reds Season Thread - fredtoast - 07-13-2018

Winker is hitting out of his mind.

Still 2 innings left in tonight's game but over his last 9 games Jesse is hitting .538 (14-26) with 5 BB and 5 extra base hits (4 doubles 1 HR)

At this point his numbers for the season (.295 BA, .406 OB%, .434 slg) are pretty much the same as Votto's (.289/.422/.440)
