First Time Since 1992.... - wolfkaosaun - 01-11-2019

In 1992, the Bengals brought in a new head coach, new offensive coordinator, and new defensive coordinator.

Since then, the Bengals have always AT LEAST had one head coach, offensive, or defensive coordinator remain with the team (sometimes promoted from OC to HC).

The Bengals have completely cleaned house for the 2019 season; bringing in a new HC, OC, and DC. The 1992 season was the last time the Bengals did something similar to that.
Granted, the Bengals did not have an OC from 1989-92.
In 1993, they promoted the TE coach to become OC, and he was there for only two years.

The Bengals are changing up the ENTIRE coaching staff for the first time in over 25 years.

Whew! That's reassuring. Nothing bad happened after 1992.

Sorry, the cynicism is leaking out of my ears at this point.

Oh God, please don't bring up 1992. Just..... don't.

Great ain't it ?

This needed to happen 3, 4, hell 8 years ago but better late than never. I truly can't wait to see where this ends up and I'm sure there will be bumps along the way. But it's nice to finally be entering the modern NFL !

I don't know if it will be better right off the bat. We have some holes to fill on both sides of the ball.
Linebackers could not cover me and are simply overmatched as a unit. Need additional pass rush, of course a new defensive system could help this. TE is in question a little, but if Kroft is back and Uzo are serviceable. I would love to draft a couple of really good guards to help running game. Right Tackle really needs to be addressed.
Andy is not going to win many games if he is not protected and surrounded by weapons.
Hope a new offensive philosophy can help. Would really love for the offense to be able to get the ball to Mixon, Gio and Ross in creative ways. AJ and Boyd will do their part. but the Old saying is speed kills and we did not use offensive speed well.
Defense could use added speed bad.

Actually looking forward to the off-season to see how things progress and next season for the results.
I thought it was encouraging that Mike Brown was not very involved in the hiring process. I would love to see our owners and Coach a little more engaged with the media and fans. The we just need to get better got old about 8 years ago.

Can't remember where, but I heard that Jesse James might want out of Pittsburgh.

Oh I have no illusions a total house cleaning will = instant success. However I do believe we can be competitive next season with the moves you mention and others. We'll see how it goes ?

Personally? I applaud the organization for not half-assing a change. This is a complete change, a new beginning. Since I saw the report that stated that Mike deferred to Katie and Troy on the HC selection, I knew in my heart that this is the beginning of the new regime in Bengals Management philosophy.

It's not like Katie and Troy are rookies, they have been a part of the organization for a long time. Chances are that they have just been biding their time, and Mike has entrusted them to produce a winner.

Turning over a new leaf, hell the whole tree - finally.

And I love it  :andy:

The days of Mike Brown running the show and keeping around people he's comfortable with have ended. The next generation is making the decisions now. It's rather refreshing.

RE: First Time Since 1992.... - CJD - 01-12-2019

When was the last time the Bengals, HC, OC and DC as well as the Reds Manager, Pitching Coach and Hitting Coach were all replaced in the same off season?

RE: First Time Since 1992.... - grampahol - 01-12-2019

I hear it'll be Nute Rockney and his assistants dug up from the grave.

God bless Mike Brown. It truly takes wisdom, leadership, and maturity to trust hiring decisions to others who may know more.

Why the change of philosophy now? He has ruled the organization like a socialist for many years. Doesn’t make sense unless he really opened his eyes and for the first time noticed the empty seats. I doubt even that would change him. He must have logged on to our msg board. Yep, that’s it.

Troy and Katie Blackburn are making the Bengals Great Again!

Seems like everyone wants out of that cesspool now.... I don't think Tomlin survives next year...

I have a sneaking suspicion that there may be health issues that are prompting this perceived change in philosophy.

I'm sure Zac Taylor knows how to use a headset.

Seriously though, this is the "young offensive mind" I've begged for, for years. I'm not going to complain. They even made a clean sweep of the coaching staff aside from the 3 coaches that everyone kinda loved anyway (Simmons, Pollack, Van Pelt). The FO could not have handled this any better. It's funny, we (the boards) argued for years about whether or not the Bengals would be able to hire anyone worth a damn after Marvin. I think they answered that question. Taylor was one of the hot names from jump.

He's just old. Time to take it easy, just ride around in the cart talking to players and enjoy life...… let someone else worry.
