Progressive or Conservative - CornerBlitz - 09-14-2015

Simple question. Yes I know it's sometimes not that simple but if you have to categorize yourself as one or the other.

Put me in as a progressive.

RE: Progressive or Conservative - RoyleRedlegs - 09-14-2015

I put this in the PnR forum.

Depends on the topic at hand

Over all conservative, but I have some progressive stances.

So true.

When it comes to football, I'm conservative.  Stout D with 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

When it comes to lesbian midget porn, I'm ultra progressive!

RE: Progressive or Conservative - michaelsean - 09-15-2015

Conservative trying to be more and more libertarian.

I consider myself moderate but I think most people here would call me progressive. I've been called a right winger before though. And there was a time when I was very enthusiastic about Bush Jr.'s presidency.

RE: Progressive or Conservative - BmorePat87 - 09-15-2015

depends on the issue. I also don't know if I can commit to only two defined points on the spectrum.

That's because in the grand spectrum of things, many people are moderates that are considered progressives here. Our country as a whole is much more conservative than most of the industrialized world.

That's the way I am. Interestingly enough, I've been called a progressive conservative before because of my Constitutional stances and a desire for a smaller federal government while endorsing state level plans that would be seen as progressive.

You will see that folks will try to avoid being classified as one or the other; even though there every thought and action clearly defines it. Maes them feel they are more "open-minded"

For me I am conservative.

RE: Progressive or Conservative - StLucieBengal - 09-15-2015

Being progressive is about large federal government. Taking care of people while taking away personal freedoms to take care of people.

progressives dispute within themsleves how they spend money but they all spend money and seize power from the public.

Just saying your in favor of taking care of someone does not make you progressive. If you are ok taking away freedoms and rights of others then you are progressive.

Progressive think they can change someone's life if they just make the decisions for them.

I am a conservative libertarian. Classicly speaking ofc.

I think the term progressive is too broad for most. If anyone really drilled down on what a progressive really was I don't think people would be so quick to say they were one. Mainly due to the loss of personal freedoms.

And your small gov stance is no way a progressive. Your an enigma. Lol (I say that with all due respect)

I have not seen any definitions of "progressive" that requires a desire to remove personal freedoms.

Everyone I have seen deals more with the belief that the government should be more active in addressing problems.

RE: Progressive or Conservative - Mike M (the other one) - 09-15-2015

I don't think many are hard core one way or the other. It's just a label that gets put on people's stances from a few topics.

Most on here will tell you that I'm conservative, but that's only based off of a few select topics. I try to stay somewhat middle of the road and use the best of both sides to come up with a possible solution.

I think that one reason we see the misidentification of others in the political spectrum is because of how much focus gets put on the social issues, and especially at the higher levels. Nobody pays attention to the deeper levels of someone's views on the issues, let along issues beyond those hot button ones that everyone is looking at now.

No, most people avoid being classified because they aren't in lockstep with one side or the other.  I'm pretty conservative on a lot of issues but conservatives wouldn't have me because I don't care about abortion, I don't thump the bible and i don't hate the *****.

It's sad that you're trying to make 'open-minded' a bad thing.

Why are people so obsessed with labels and fitting everyone in a tight little box ?

I blame Obama and his Orwellian Racial Bureaucracy.
