vegas - Goalpost - 02-14-2020

So I just got back from Las Vegas. I stayed at New York New York. My brother and his wife were at MGM Grand which was across the street. We went everywhere. Mandalay Bay. Luxor. Excaliper. Park MGM. Flamingo. Bellagio. Caesars. Ballys. Mirage. Paris. We walked the strip and used the tram as well that connects the north and south ends. We took a taxi up to Fremont street where the Golden Nugget, Four Queens, Binion's, among others. It costs 25.00 via taxi each way to Fremont, but that area is unbelievable. If you go to Vegas, go to Fremont street one of the evenings.

We saw Aerosmith one evening. Park MGM has a new theater. Seats about 5000. Not a bad seat in the place. We were in the balcony.
Was impressed that at 70 years old, these guys still have it....musical, voice, and energy.

About a 4 hour flight from Cincinnati to it. About 3 hours back...you fly quicker back due to the favorable winds, Cost was 65.00 each way. Hotel for Sunday thru Thurs was about 300 with added resort fee of about 160. So about 600 room and flight. Only bummer was I lost about 1500 gambling, no surprise, just didn't have much luck but had fun anyway. Brother won 2500....the luck was with him instead.

I bought a new pair of shoes for the trip and put some foam inserts into them. Turned out to be a good idea. The tread on my shoes is really worn already, ha. I know Vegas isn't for everybody, but there is a lot to see and do there without gambling. The Reds were 15-1 to win the National League Central. And 30-1 to win the pennant.

I once hitch hiked to Vegas many moons ago with about 12 cents in my pocket. I was 19 at the time, not old enough to legally gamble, but I dropped my last nickle in a nickle slot machine and won $40 in nickles. At 19 and broke i thought that was IT! I was never gonna leave Vegas and be a REAL gambler..
However...Fate had a different idea. I dropped most of it back into the machines and walked out with a little over 5 bucks. A bit later I was sitting outside of some burger joint about to eat for the first time all day when 2 large dogs, some hound and a doberman appeared in front of me looking a bit more than just hungry. So I gave them my burger and they followed me around town all day. I finally decided to leave town and was fully prepared to hitch hike with those two dogs with me. I finally got someone to stop to give us a ride when the dogs owner yelled from the fence along the access road..."Hey you! Thanks for taking care of my dogs!" The lady handed me a $50 bill for my trouble and I left town richer than when I arrived..That actually happened and was the absolute last thing I expected at the time.. There's a lot more to the story, but in the interest of Readers Digesterism I'll leave it at that.. ThumbsUp

Where in the world did you see the Reds at 15/1 to win the NL Central? I would have immediately put down 1K on that...

Although we closed the gap in the Central, Vegas still has the Reds behind the Cardinals, Brewers and Cubs.  I believe they were 30-1 a few months back.  But the odds decreased down to 15-1.  They have a betting sheet you can pick up that showed both...the trend....and I kind of wished I had the older odds....I want to say I saw it at MGM, but I know I checked out the boards at many of the casinos I was in, just for curiousness.  I did manage to meet Pete Rose and chat for a few as he does autographs there.

I don't gamble on sports, but I might if the odds are good enough. I'd rather blow my dough on a 1000-1 bet on the off chance it wins, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
