Driver spotted a meteor this morning - HarleyDog - 09-30-2020

One of our drivers spotted a meteor this morning. He called me and asked if I could pull it up on video because it was pretty cool. Took me awhile to find it, but yes, it was kind of cool. https://www.facebook.com/mike.east.73/posts/10221016740562153?notif_id=1601475654857641&notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic&ref=notif

That's pretty cool. I've seen several "shooting stars" in my life, many while in the Pacific ocean in the Navy. But probably 10 years ago I saw the best one ever. This thing probably lasted 5 seconds or a bit more ? went basically all the way across the sky. We were like ohhh, ahhh.

Awesome.

It was kind of funny this morning. Usually when I walk in I have 3-4 calls from people that just need to talk to me about this and that. LOL, the driver was kind of excited about what he saw and couldn't wait to see if I could go back in history and find video from his truck. Like a kid in a candy store. LOL

Was this at around 6:15 am? If so, I think that I may have also seen it, in the Northern Sky.

I was expecting a picture of a car with a meteor on it. Lol

If you actually watch the sky you will see them pretty regularly when on the ocean or out in the desert as long as there are not a lot of lights around you.

Camp fires are not allowed in Canyonlands National Park.  When I was camping there we would lay on our backs at night and watch the sky while we were talking.  We saw a lot of little "shooting stars" and one time was saw a big one.  Not as big as this one, but pretty impressive.  I would love to go camping there during the Leonid meteor shower or something like that.

Did you notice any satellites in the sky?

Camping outside of Arches National Park in Moab, I thought I was seeing UFOs (I was kind wasted) before my buddy pointed out they were satellites.  But there were definitely several shooting stars while skywatching...

Oh yes ! The stars you see in the middle of the Pacific dwarf 1,000 X anything you can see on land unless you're way, WAY out in the sticks with like no cities for hundreds of miles.

Yes we did.  I probably would not have noticed if my friend did not point them out.  They looked like stars but they were moving slowly across the sky.

Arches is beautiful.  I have been through that area but never camped there.

What caught my eye with them was that they would change trajectory, almost at a right angle from my perspective.  Thus my UFO thoughts.  Once I stopped and thought about why it looked that way, it was became obvious.
