IMO, the secondary has definitely been upgraded when you consider the players added and the fact they will be playing in zone heavy schemes. Jackson struggled in zone and Hilton is a better all around slot corner than Alexander.

We'll have to wait and see with Hendrickson, but I like the addition. As much as I liked Lawson, I've never been a fan of giving big deals to players with extensive injury concerns.

I like the addition of Ogunjobi as well, especially if he's used as a rotational/situational player, where I think his best value is and where's he's most effective.

The reason is because I'd rather 10-12 games of good play vs 14-16 games of mediocre play.

I am not asking you that. I am simply saying if you gonna pay someone a big second contract they should perform well and be durable. I was using Hart as an example of durable, not as an example of good. Don't twist my words. Thank you.

My guess is they brought Ogunjobi in to replace Geno Atkins at a lower cost for 1 year.

There's no way Geno is going to take a pay cut to stay here.

Geno's done with Lou and I think Geno would be the last left over from Marvin's regime

Fair.
I just think it's too premature to look for a replacement for Jonah Williams for LT. Maybe I was reading too much into what you were saying.
If he goes the route of Tyler Eifert, I can understand moving on, but I'm not going to consider him "not durable" if he misses 3-4 games a year.

probly dont need to look to replace him totally.. But we do need additional options at LT based on his ability to finish a season so far.

Bengals fans doing some hardcore Golladay recruiting on Twitter...led by Chad. LOL

That's what a mid-round pick is for, IMO.

RE: ***Official Bengals Free Agency Thread*** - spazz70 - 03-18-2021

I see a lot of discussion here about LT and Jonah Williams. I know what Zac or Tobin or whoever said about Williams but I am just going to use some common sense here. IF Reiff signs, he slides into RT. IF Sewell is still there at 5 you do not pass on him. That will be your bookends, Jonah will have to slide somewhere inside, probably LG. It is not rocket science and I like what the Bengals are trying to do. I think that they are doubling down if Sewell is not there at 5. You still have your bookends, Williams and Reiff. You can trade down, take a top WR, take Pitts, it is eliminating you from being pigeonholed in that pick. IF, you sing Golladay then you are looking at Pitts or trading down if possible I would think.

Either way I think the Reiff signing is the most important....

BTW...Would you all be happy if Geno restructured for decent amount and is healthy to go along with Reader, Obi and resign Daniels? not a bad rotation IDL

I would like to see Geno stick around, but no way at his current cap number.

I am not looking to replace him. I just think when a guy misses a lot of time consistently regardless of performance, it hinders a club wanting to make a huge long term investment in him. In my opinion, he has 3 seasons to become a solid, durable OT and earn a second contract and I am rooting for that.

If Bobby Hart is our starting RT you might want to set up the next appointment for his other knee with the surgeon in L.A.   Thats how fearful i am of any of the OL we currently have blocking for JoeyB.

I think were a bunch of people are missing the whole scenario on is Awuzie better then WJ3 or whatever and I get it, that's the most Obvious way to look at it. Player A leaves, Player B is signed.

I like to look at it from the Angle of Waynes is now the Bengals #1 (replacing WJ3), and Auwzie will be starting opposite him, replacing the cluster of guys we had there last year (Sims, Brown, etc etc). Hilton replaces Alexander in the slot, and as solid as Mac played IMO Hilton is an upgrade.

Also have to take into consideration the scheme, zone scheme is def NOT WJ3's best fit, he is a great man to man cover guy, and that is obviously not something this staff is going to be running as a base D.

As for Trey, I watched every game he played living here in NOLA. Anyone who says half his sacks were coverage sacks, or he got his sacks as cleanup sacks are completely WRONG. Did he benefit by playing on a line with an ALL PRO in Cam, and having solid DTs like Rankins, Onyemata, and Brown? Of course, but in NOWAY was he just getting cleanup sacks. In Fact I would say Onyemata, Rankins benefited more with Trey's get off and collapsing the pocket often and forcing the QB to step up into them. Trey quite often was the FIRST guy to get there on multiple occasions. He also started his climb to this type of play in 2019 closing out the season. 18 sacks in his last 28 games. People want to look at Pressure, qb hits etc as pass rush stats, and thats fine, they are ALL relative, but so are sacks. You can get all the pressure, and hits you want, but did they lead to a loss on the play? A SACK does. If you cant finish then pressures and hits are misleading.

You may be right that without adding another Edge rusher he may only get 3or4 sacks, but that would be because teams can slide their protection to him and focus on him more. I would hope Reader, LO, Hubbard, Geno (if he still here) and someone they add in draft or FA will help to not allow that to happen, but it would be the SAME scenario if Lawson was Trey so....

I get your gloom and doom mentality, because its warranted. I myself just cant sit here all offseason and year after year and have that mentality because then the game I love to watch and be involved in would be worthless.

Penei Sewell has very limited playing time in college so it would be best if he started inside and let Jonah and Reiff play tackle. A year inside learning would benefit Sewell alot.

Here's my problem with a guy on the OL who misses a lot of time is it doesn't allow the OL to build chemistry it needs to be sturdy and work together.   Again, maybe the last 2 years are anomalies, but I see better than I hear.  Show me you can stay healthy and be a good LT in this league.   You can come into this league as a 1st round draft pick but NFL stands for Not For Long....

I hope this isn't too crass, but could you imagine looking down after tackling a guy to see that he's sporting a massive boner?

Sometimes after the game he would continue to run routes. After 4hrs, he had to get a shot to bring him down. Ninja
