Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - CJD - 10-18-2021

I don't own a subscription to PFF (I have more than enough subscriptions already!) but they do offer overall PFF grades and rankings within a position group as of week 6 for free, so I thought I'd just share those because I found them interesting.

There are a few grades and rankings here that I find somewhat questionable, like Hendrickson's relatively low grade but overall these numbers look right to me. We have a top 10 QB, a top 10 RB, a top 15 WR, a top 15 LT (17th among all tackles, so probably top 15 LT), a top 15 guard, 2 top 15 safeties, a top 10 LB, a top 5 CB and two top 10 DTs.

What do you all think?

RE: Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - GreenCornBengal - 10-18-2021

I think Spain and Awuzie are quietly MVPs for this group. Say what you will about ZT but he’s been killing free agency.

RE: Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - Nicomo Cosca - 10-18-2021

There’s a couple guys I think should be higher (Chase, Hendrickson), but overall that’s very encouraging.

I’m sure it’s a night and day difference from last years rankings.

RE: Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - Whatever - 10-18-2021

Hendrickson has hidden things that drop his grade. For example, he had a sack, a QB Hit, and 3 Hurries against the Lions, but had a missed tackle that really killed his Tackle grade and allowed a 24 yard completion in coverage that killed his Coverage grade.

Williams has really improved over last season.

Overall the OL is a mixed bag but generally improved.

If they can nail a good pickup or 2 for next season on OL this is going to be a contender.

And chase had a pass he deflected into an interception that probably dragged his grade down.

If the Bengals can end up keeping Spain and Reiff for at least one more season, I think the focus on the OL becomes C.
That could be possibly the only OL starting position to worry about if Carman solidifies RG by the end of the season.

The Bengals still have Hopkins through next season, so that can help bridge the gap for any learning curve that a new C would have.
It's also very possible that Hopkins' injury from Week 17 of last year is still affecting his power/mobility, so maybe he gets back to form by the end of the year too.

ZT FAs:

1) Excellent or better: Reader, Awuzie, Spain, Bell, Hendrickson
2) Pretty Good: Reiff, Ogunjobi, Hilton, Perine
3) OK: Apple, (better lately), Mike Thomas
4) Injured all the time: Waynes, XSF

That is a pretty good hit rate.

Trades:
1) A grade: BJ Hill for Price

Draft:
1) Home Runs: Burrow, Chase, L. Wilson
2) Triples: Ossai (looked like),
3) Doubles: Jonah Williams, C. Evans
4) Singles: Pratt, Higgins, ADG, Carman, McPherson
5) Fielder's Choice: D. Sample, Wren, T. Williams, Kareem, Adeniji, Bailey, Smith, C. Sample, Shelvin, Hubert.
6) Whiffs: : Finley, Jordan, L. Davis, R. Anderson, J. Brown

Pretty solid here. And a lot if guys have had injury setbacks/missed rime (Jonah, Wren, Burrow, Ossai, T. Williams, Kareem, Adeniji, Smith, Hubert) and it is still early for a all of them.

RE: Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - Frank Booth - 10-18-2021

Spain and Williams are good, Reiff is average, Hopkins and Carmen are trash.

At least the o-line is balanced

I’d personally have Jonah higher. Cam Sample, too.

RE: Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - Joelist - 10-18-2021

PFF lacks credibility in the ratings in a lot of areas. If you look at PFF you'd think Hendrickson had a terrible day when in reality he dominated Sewell all day and was in the Lions backfield so much it disrupted the entire offense.

Harsh.

*Carman hasn’t allowed a single sack so far. He had a rough game vs GB, but he’s also had his good moments in some of the other games. Especially his run blocking.

RE: Player Rankings according to PFF after 6 weeks - MickMack - 10-18-2021

I know the focus has rightfully been on Logan Wilson, but the linebackers deserve some major credit. In years past a talented TE like Hockenson would have gotten double or more yards than he got yesterday. Teams owned the middle of the field against us for years. Vast improvement so far this season.

I know it’s his first year but he is currently really bad

Thankfully Detroit has absolutely nobody at WR. All the Bengals had to do was take away Hockenson and Swift, and they did.

The trash guy graded out at 87.2 last week, one of the highest on the team. Despite having food poisoning. A limited number of snaps as a result. But I think it is not hard to see a good player in there.

After a terrible PFF rating the fist game (28.0), he is now up to 40.5. A couple more good games and he'll be ahead of Hopkins (45.2) and XSF (50.0).

It also might help your credibility if you could spell his name right.

I'll do Electric Company for you:

Car.
Man.
Carman.

Completely fair.

It's pretty early on Sample, and Jonah has missed a lot of time, though.
