Matt Minich - rookie player comparisons - ochocincos - 05-09-2023

I know some have felt Jordan Battle has similarities to Vonn Bell, but I think Minich's comparison to Ronnie Harrison is a safe one.
Harrison is solid, Bell is more maybe the higher end.

I'd maybe say Murphy is kinda like Lawson except he can actually play the run coming into the league whereas Lawson was a complete liability against the run at first.

I think the Chase Brown comp to McKinnon is something people aren't going to be too happy about. Brown I think people will want/expect more of a bellcow whereas McKinnon has always been just a RBBC/COP guy.

Mostly fun comps. I like our draft class overall. Regarding Brown, I would actually prefer a committee. McKinnon hasn't been anything to write home about, though.

Cobb comparison I think does a disservice to Charlie Jones athletically, but if Jones can be anywhere close to the career Cobb has had, it's a great pick.

Chase Brown's seems the most inaccurate to me, playstyle wise.
McKinnon has always been a prolific pass catcher but just meh as a runner.
Size/athleticism though McKinnon is about the same as Chase Brown.

I don't really see the Lawson-Murphy comp. Eminem is much longer than Law-Dog.

What's Ivy's comparison? Poor kid gets no love....

Agreed, I dont see it. MM looks quicker off ball and has alot more length. Lawson  was a pure power rusher.

How about this height/weight/speed Comp for "poison Ivey"

 DJ Ivey  6 foot & ½  194 pounds 4.46 forty  - Josh Shaw  6 foot & ½  201 pounds 4.44 forty (a Former Bengal)

Same, unless he can beat out Jalen Davis and Allen George for the last CB spot.
Bengals don't often keep all their draft picks on the main roster anyway.

I don't think Ivey and maybe not Iosivas will make the roster and will have to go to PS for a year or so like Irwin and Morgan did.

A better Comp for Iosivas may be...

Andrei Iosivas  6 foot 3 & 1/8  205 pounds 4.43 forty - Cody Core 6 foot 3  205 pounds 4.47 forty (a Former Bengal)

You may wanna compare the other athletic drills for your comparisons, not just the 40.

While Core is very close to Iosivas when it comes to size and 40 time, Iosivas has him beat overall when it comes to explosive and agility drills.

I agree - Truth be told I was killing some time at work with these quick Comps. Fun to do.

I see Andrei as a secret weapon - Chris Henry 6 foot 4 and 197 pounds at a slow 4.5 forty,
Our next deep ball machine, you got to play us!

A guy who I think might be a really good comparison for Chase Brown is former Titan Bishop Sankey.
Sankey, like Brown, had a monstrous two seasons before entering the draft.
Both are workhorses and could catch out of the backfield.
Very, very similar size, speed, and agility.
Like Brown, Sankey wasn't overly shifty on the field, but he could do enough if given the blocking.
While Sankey did ok in a complementary role as a rookie (702 yards from scrim) in 2014, he fell behind Antonio Andrews his sophomore season. Then in 2016 the Titans drafted Derrick Henry and the rest is history.

I am optimistic Chase Brown will have a better career in the NFL than Sankey did, but I thought Sankey would have done more too, so we'll see.

I hope so.

Just wonder why Andrei fell to the 6th round. Chris Henry was a 3rd rounder and Cody Core was a 6th rounder.

I liked Cody Core's size/speed when the Bengals drafted him.

Overall I really like this group of players drafted by the Bengals.

Bishop Sankey is a good Comp. It looks like he was a 2nd round pick, so the Bengals have less invested in Chase with a 5th rounder.

Every individual player is ultimately different and unique, so we will get to see what Chase has soon enough.

Andrei Iosivas fell to the 6th round primarily because of his level of competition, plus he's (somewhat) raw as a receiver.
943 yards and 7 TDs is good in 10 games, but it was against the Ivy League.
He had some dominant games (Lafayette, Harvard, Cornell) but also some duds (Brown, Dartmouth, Penn).

5th-7th round was perfect for Iosivas.
He's a project, for sure. But there's definitely the "stuff" there to try to mold.

The only ones that don't make sense to me are MM and Lawson and Chase Brown and McKinnon like you said.

Murphy is very good at stopping the run as you said unlike Lawson coming into the league, Murphy is just so much more versatile in all
areas. Maybe he doesn't have quite the bend that Lawson does when rushing the passer, but not many do. Brown is a much better runner
than McKinnon but has the ability to be just as good as a pass catcher and a pass blocker. The rest of the comparisons I can agree with.
