Jim, when I look at our list of coaches, I see a number of positions that are listed as "quality control". If I recall correctly, one of these folks got promoted to a positions coach on defense around when Guenther became the DC. My question is, how much power and influence do they have over how the team is run? When I see (what I believe to be) sloppy play on the field, should I be wondering if the people with "quality control" in their job title are partially to blame? Are they merely advisers to Marvin or do they have real power to get after a player and possibly push for one guy to be benched over another?

I too, have a, "team personnel," question:
When Shaw had to come off the field, there was a really tall guy with glasses who escorted him off.
We've seen him for years and he's always on the field when someone is hurt. Is he a team doctor? What's his name? I've always wondered lol.
Also, how does the team appear to feel about Will Clarke? The same as everyone else or are they excited in particular for him, as he's taken a big step this year?

Jim, what are you planning to do on your trip to England? -- Honestly, a lot of it will be on the fly. We have to cover the practices on Friday and Saturday. I know we want to meet up with Bengals fans who have congregated there, either Friday or Saturday nights -- or both!
As for the QC coaches - they have no 'control' over anything, really. They are entry level jobs and do a ton of grunt work. Now, of course each individual coach and team are different, but they are definitely "assisting."
As for the tall guy - he is a Doc/trainer, but not sure his name, actually. I don't see him other than game day.

Jim, even though I'm sure he'll deny it, but it's clear that Marvin Lewis gave up in the first quarter of yesterday's game. Why doesn't he just resign if he's going to give up so early in a game despite the score? Why does no one in the front office or even the media hold Lewis accountable for giving up in a game?
Also, when is the coaching staff going to address the offensive line? Something needs to change but nothing changes and Dalton still has no time to throw passes.

When( I know some would say if) the Patriots manhandle the Bengals this upcoming week like the Cowboys did yesterday, do you think Lewis will lose the locker room for the season mentally? In your opinion, can this team mentally handle back to back blowouts and recover from it?

What is this thing you speak of? Off … sea … son? Seriously though, there’s really only a couple of brief windows – right before free agency, just after but before the draft, and really the mandatory break in July the teams take. In those brief windows, it’s all about family, friends and golf!

I don’t believe anyone “gave up” Sunday. I honestly think they were flabbergasted by what was happening. Everyone said the defense had a great week of practice, practiced some of those exact plays, and then that happened.
As for the offensive line – not sure what changes they can make. I know everyone points to Bodine, but there’s a reason he’s starting.

I think sometimes we (fans) lose sight of the fact of who, you and all the other Bengals staff, work for. Yes, the Bengals are your employers.
This is not a criticism of 'YOU or ANY staff member', but just pointing out some realism here.
Now I doubt whether any other staff member, besides yourself, has ever stepped foot in these forums and I wouldn't expect them to.
But, there is always a 'chance', that whatever a staff member says, in ANY venue, could get back to the employers.
Nobody in their right mind, that is satisfied with their job, is going to 'publicly' speak out against the same people who sign their paycheck.
No staff member is going to say,
"I don't know why Alexander can't see his center getting manhandled MORE than not. I would think, seeing how the offensive line, minus Smith, is the same as the past few years, that NFL coaches, worth their weight, should be able to turn things around."
"Brown and Lewis have a very tight relationship and Marvin will leave when Marvin retires. Yes, Marvin has done a great job at getting this franchise turned around, but sometimes players and referees need to hear some fire and emotion from the HC when those players and referees aren't doing their jobs. However that's all in the personality, and we can't expect someone to change their personality. Marvin isn't going to turn into a Mike Zimmer no matter how successful Zimmer is in Minnesota. So we can only focus on the positive things Marvin has done, and hope the players' talents can carry them."
It takes a big person to admit they were wrong, and I don't see the Bengal employers to be an exception, which only means that IF the above
'real, but negative' kind of responses were made, it would make job security very vulnerable.
So .... what we are left with is rooting for the hand that is dealt, hoping for the best, but, expecting franchise history to repeat itself.
At least .... 'SO FAR' ..... it's not the 90s anymore!!

He basically said he didn't think a loss to the Patriots would result in Lewis losing the dressing room this early in the season. A couple of questions for you Jim?
Two former Bengals got released this week Chris Carter from the ravens and Wallace Gillberry from the lions.Chris carter was signed by the colts this week and Wallace Gillberry is still on the street? My question is did they have any interest in Carter before he was signed by the colts and would they be interested in a Gilberry reunion for the end of the season?
Also why do they love Hunt so much the guy has barely produced but they seem to still play Him on a week to week basis. Its not like there afraid to cut early draft picks either since they have cut Devon Still in 14 and Paul Dawson this season. So what makes him so special?

1. Marv was quoted yesterday saying "he misses the hell out of Hue Jackson". Now I doubt Marv meant that as a direct stab at Zampese, but it's hard not to take it that way. Thoughts?
2. I read an article from your buddy Dehner about Ogbuehi's benching. There were some quotes from other linemen talking about their early career struggles and times they were benched. A quote from Clint Boling caught my eye. He mentioned struggling one year, and how Paul Alexander helped him fix some issues *after* the season was over. Boling said that Paul can't really deal with that kind of stuff during the season.
I guess my question there is why not? I guess I figured an o-line coach would help his guys with technique and make corrections through the season. Is there some other responsibility that keep Paul from doing that?

Wow, and I thought our coaches were bad before... I guess it's hard to find time when you're coaching to... coach players? lol wtf.

From what Boling said I don't think the issue is the coach's ability to coach him up during the season but the player's ability to address the issue during the season.
My guess is it is a strength or some physical related problem. Boling was always a technique guy coming into the league. My guess is that Alexander told him how he could properly address the strength issue in the off season.
There is no doubt that Og (as he has said himself) will have to do the same. Og has said his biggest problem has been his difficulty handling the bull rush. And the guy had almost no chance this offseason as he has had "muscle" problems and other injuries throughout.
Man I hope that's all it is. My big fear is that it's a stupidity issue. You can't really fix stupid.
