Defense Still Wins Championships

Dax Hill clearly took a step forward this game and DJ Turner held it down while Awuzie was out. I think getting a win like this can really get the ball rolling defensively. I do wonder how much longer they're gonna keep Scott out there though.

TBH Cleveland was on the offense - in particular on Burrow. He was VERY inaccurate and failed to hit wide open receivers and by most counts left at least 3 touchdowns on the field. Against the Rats THAT was on the defense - they completely failed to get pressure and even to maintain fundamentals like gap discipline and playing zone correctly. They also were incapable of getting off the field.

Against the Rams the defense fixed a lot of the issues we previously saw. They played much tighter zones, used misdirection and the like to help the DL prosper and just shut the Rams down.

The defense was bad against the Ravens, but the offense was off too. That drive in the 3rd quarter where Burrow threw an int in the endzone was the game.

The offense was still off true, but the defense literally was incapable of getting off the field. Even with the INT they were one stop away from giving Burrow the ball down only 3 with more than enough time to win it. But like all game they could not get even that one stop.

Note the following week the Colts were able to stop the Rat offense when needed. It is like I posted a week ago - we made both the Stains and Rats look better than they actually were.

You can't leave your defense out there the entire game with that anemic, at best, Bengal offensive performance. Offense gave up the ball with 11 minutes to go in the game on their own 28 yard line and you want to blame the D? Man, some on this board gets dumber and dumber.

Did you watch the game? The browns ran all over us. Watson played like crap. If he was any what accurate we would have lost by 2 more touchdowns. Yeah our O sucked too, and they were worse than the D. Both need to step up. And O wins super bowls. This is a new era of football. If you don’t see that, I’ll categorize you in “some of this board”.

Speed kills, too bad Ja'marr doesn't get up to 23mph again, he needs to put the burners on.

The defense played fast and last night was the first time all season I wasn’t worried because Von Bell and Jessie Bates weren’t on the back end.  Trey Hendrickson was on Matthew Stanford like Deshaun Watson on a massage therapist and Sam Hubbard was outstanding on the other end of the line.

The Bengals will win a lot this year.  As long as the defense plays like they did last night the offense can take time, find an identity, get Joe Burrow healthy, and wrack the league all over again.

Lou definitely had his Defense ready in this one. They knew it was a must win game and they made sure Stafford couldn't hurt us
getting TD's. That is an improved Rams team from last year by a wide margin. Of course all 3 phases are what wins Championships
but having a shitty Defense is embarrassing and I am so happy that is not the case with the Bengals while Lou is here.

It was a tough outing against our 2 division rivals in the Stains and Rats right out of the gate. The Stains with Chubb to boot and
no passing game and Lamar playing great and actually passing well out of the pocket is a tough task with no passing game ourselves.

Our run defense still looks very very bad. We got lucky LA didn’t run it more. These jet sweeps are killing us.

I love Hendrickson, he may be the best free agent singing we’ve ever had. But no one else on this line gets consistent pressure. It’s going to be an issue this year and in to the playoffs.

KC doesn't have a lousy Defense, what are you talking about? Chris Jones and that D are top 10 for sure.

Hubbard is getting pressure and got a Sack, Reader got a Sack, others got Sacks as we had 6 or 7 sacks.

All 3 phases are what win Championships, not just Defense, but a great Defense is much better than having a lousy one.

we got destroyed in time of possession in the first half in the Ravens game D got destroyed in 2nd half due to being on field entire 1st half. We are starting to get in sync hopefully that is a thing of the past going forward offense takes time to gel especially if QB misses most of training camp.

Pretty much the story of that game.  Had the offense been able to sustain a drive or two in the first half, it likely would have been a different story in the second half.

Yes to both posts. Hard to judge any Defense when they are on the field nearly the entire games because the Offense keeps going 3 and out
and our Punter is pretty bad right now as well. As the Offense improves the Defense should as well.
