Serious question, but why do you expect any country to respect our sanctions when a legitimate talking point in our election cycle involves promises to mercilessly bomb them?

Well, yes. If Iran's leaders ran on a platform of promising to bomb the USA and then told us we weren't allowed to do XYZ I would sincerely hope we wouldn't listen.
Iran has not violated the rules of the deal regarding developing nuclear weapons. that was deal forced into place with international sanctions from multiple countries.
The nuclear deal did not effect most of the sanctions the US had against Iran based mainly on what we claimed were violations of human rights. These US sanctions were NOT lifted when the sanctions from other countries were after the nuclear deal.
So Iran is defying the UNited States, but they are not violating the international deal regarding their nuclear weapon program.
