You know, they could have avoided all of this, simply by making Stevie Wonder the head judge.

Damn, if only there were some other manner in which we could judge women by their looks.

A beauty pageant not judging people on their appearance.....makes sense.

In the last 6 months, an email scandal prompted the top leadership to resign, people to get fired, and Dick Clark Productions to no longer be a part of the competition.
The board for the competition is now made up of many past winners who felt that they should move the competition in a different direction.
I don't really care what they do to a competition I have never watched and will likely never watch, but it seems like they made some necessary changes given recent events.

My thing is simply that them saying that they aren't judging them on their appearance anymore is a lie. How many over weight contestants are there? How many "unattractive" contestants are there? While they can act like this is a move from judging on looks the reality is the whole contest is built around it and it's not changing, and frankly if you have ever talked to people who do these contests you know that they like being in the "beautiful people" club that comes with being a pageant contestant.
Now you could argue it is a move from being sex objects, but it's still all about their appearances.

We'll see going forward, I guess. I think the likely answer is "no", you won't see unattractive Miss (insert state here) compete, but the possibly superficial change may be all they need for PR purposes.

So why not abolish it outright. For intelligent people, there's the nobel prize.

Aside from the talent portion and the interview portion, isn't the whole point of the competition to judge based on their looks? Are they still having the dressing gown portion? If so, are they judging on something OTHER than looks?

Not that its any skin off my back, cause I haven't nor will I ever watch.....but this decision reminds me of the time when Playboy decided no nudity. How long did that last?

Cant objectify women based on looks anymore, thats one of the goals of the #metoo movement. Soon cheerleaders on the sidelines will be gone in the coming years. Girls all pretty up at events like races or whatnot will be gone. Basically anything out there in the entertainment world where pretty girls are there just because they are pretty will be in the crosshairs.
However the rest of the real world will ignore this as hot girls typically only go out with good looking dudes & vice-versa. People objectify looks typically first and foremost when said people are good looking and trying to date. Not always, but you all know what I mean looking back to your high-school and college days (liquored up girls dont count).

This year, they're letting them wear whatever they feel comfortable in. So, I guess it'll be pajama bottoms and t-shirts, flat hair and no makeup.

Don't you think you're going a little overboard here? The only thing that is proven to turn women into unsexy shadows of their former selves is marriage. But seriously, this is a little funny. Miss America takes out the swimsuit competition and people are declaring this to be the death of women everywhere attempting to look attractive.
It's all over! We'll all be amorphous, genderless blobs in no time! Damn you MEE TOOO!!!!!

I think I would be going overboard, but not too long ago the hot chicks at Formula 1 races got removed, even to their objection. Maybe its just a short term trend though, but we'll see.

Stop in at the Gold Club tonight, featuring the All-Wal Mart bikini team on the main stage..

I've argued for years they should get rid of the swimsuit competition and replace it with something more appropriate like a cooking or sewing contest.

We live in a glorious time where a billion hot chicks are instantly available on the internet. I think we live in a pretty stimulating time. I can only imagine how amusing it would be to talk to a man who keeled over before the internet age.
You had it so good back in the good ol' days, sir. You could oggle all those sexy cheerleaders and swimsuit competitions, and what not. Today we have all this women's lib and political correctness and it really killed our ability to appreciate a sexy lady. What's this? Oh, this is just a modern phone. Yeah, I can actually access any type of porn I want within seconds. Hmm, gee I guess we do have it pretty good in these modern times.
I will say that I never really combined sexual stimulation with everyday things and/or pop culture like others of my ilk did. When I was in high school I didn't really care about Brittany Spears like my male friends because I didn't look to music when I wanted to get a boner. Hell, there is a topic on the Jungle Noise board about something Nate Burleson said about Marvin Lewis and more than 0 of the posts within talk about how hot his female costar is. Any thread about AJ McCarron eventually became primarily about talking about screwing his wife.
All I'm saying is that the strategy of using attractive women to entice people into paying attention to stuff isn't going anywhere.
