Ask yourself why would anybody who voted for him...based on his campaign promises, peel off when he’s following through.
First, Trump promised a wall paid for by Mexico. He is not "following through" on that promise. This standoff is about a wall paid for by you and me, out of funds already marked for other purposes, which the majority of Americans think will be an ineffective use of funds for border control.
There are a number of reasons why voters might peel off, if they see Trump's push for the wall creates a Constitutional crisis, or if they see the guy who claimed to put America first is really putting himself and his pride first, not matter how much it endangers his fellow Americans, and if they see him as manipulated by Coulter, Rush and Hannity. Finally, if they come to understand there are better options for border security, more effective use of funding for border control, they might also peel off.
But I think that for most Trump supporters the wall is symbolic. It is not really about effectiveness. It won't stop thousands of asylum seekers who report to control points and it won't have much affect on the flow of drugs, which mostly come down the highway and through customs control. They don't really care. Still want THE WALL.

You might be referring to Dem support for the Secure Fence Act of 2006. That would be a FENCE covering a 700 mile portion of the border, not an easily circumvented 30 foot concrete/steel wall stretching thousands of million and costing unnecessary billions. I am not aware of any Democrats calling for a border wall like Trump's and certainly not one paid for by Mexico.

How is it again that he’s endangering national security when congress can pass a budget that he can veto but they can override with enough votes? Or THEY can pass a budget with wall funding and end the shutdown right now. Take your blinders off.
To repeat--the Dems have never called for a 30-foot high wall the length of the border, the building of which would be contracted out to a Trump crony. We ALREADY HAVE the type of wall that "other nations" have, or to whom could you be referring? Got some Fox/Breitbart links or something?
Trump is endangering national security by demanding funding for a wall that Congress won't give him, and so refusing to sign a bill that would fund the government. This means our airports are less safe. People are losing health care. Some may even lose homes if they can't make payments.
Trump has no real plan to get his wall built, or negotiating skills to get what he wants from Congress. You are now seeing why he went bankrupt six times and no US banks would lend to him anymore. Only now it is the nation crashing, not some casino or Trump university.
