Players union wants rookies to boycott minicamps
#7
This is a bigger push by the union to eliminate all voluntary workouts. The fatal issue here is that injuries are going to happen in preparation for the season, just a matter if you are on site or not. If you are on site your contract is guaranteed, or they’ll have to give you an injury settlement. If your away from the facility you can be placed on the NFI list and they can choose to not pay you. Now often teams will still pay players who get injured doing actual prep for the season, however, if the NFLPA wants to die on this hill I could see it becoming common practice by all teams to refuse pay for NFI incidents.
