Slow starts by offense.

I know we score a lot at the end of the half.

I know we have a lot of big plays that drive up our PPP stats.

Neither one of those explains why we often start so slow we can't come back to win.  Why can we score at the end of the half but not at the beginning of the game.  Why can't we score in the first quarter if we are 2nd in the league in PPP?

Maybe this will help. I’ve known 3 college OC’s all with NC’s as OC. I know them extremely well. I also know a current NFL coach whose expertise is offense. All 3 I’ve discussed at length this subject. Setting up plays for success later in the game. Running a play just to change it slightly to generate a score later. Taylor is huge on this as he’s a Bill Walsh fanatic. He too was big on this. I’ve linked the article about how Taylor foxed Denver exactly this way.

If you don’t want to read it fine. Basically they baited the safety into moving up after running it previous for. A Perine 22 yard gain. When he thought it was going to be run again Fangio moved the safety up and they faked it this time and Boyd released from his block resulting in a big TD pass. Taylor is big on setting up plays early in the game only to set up TD type plays off it. Hope this helps explain. Burrow and Boyd after the game raved how Taylor baited Fangio

He loves Bill Walsh and has studied his tactics at length.

Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.
