Well stated.  One thought that I would like to add which adds credence to your last sentence;  If you don't believe what 6andcounting said, just take a hard look at the reduction in the number of head to head and defenseless receiver calls this year, compared to when it was a point of emphasis.  

Not sure that is a great example, as players eventually adjusted (for the most part).  It was even pointed out earlier today (or second game last night?) when a DB blasted a guy on the ball at the catch.  He pointed out during the replay how in the not too distant past the DB would have lined him up for a knockout blow, and now guys target the ball to force the incompletion.
