Yes, but that does nothing to explain the numbers quoted in this article.  Our income taxes are progressive.  No way a player would pay $47.7K on the first $75K earned and then just $300 on the next $75K earned ($48K on $150K)

And it is impossible to owe more taxes than income earned.
