Honestly, for years the Secret Service has been a disaster of an agency. Their organizational culture is atrocious and because they keep a "promote from within" policy it continues to be perpetuated. This goes back decades at this point.
We had a student here that took a job with the SS after graduation and one of the professors and I were chatting with him and his father at some event for the program we were in and he was all excited about it. The professor was mentioning all of this and asking why he had decided to choose this agency which she uses as an example of toxic organizational environments (her specialty is organizational psychology in the public sector). The kid's father then mentioned that it was because he was a SS agent. But then he went on to talk about how right she was! It was one of the more interesting conversations I have ever been a part of, for sure. Almost as good as the guy who was on the Marine One flight crew during the Clinton administration.
