After:

- Suffering a slightly slipped disk when I was around 10 years old (that's the circa) that was finally fixed in 2019 (had never had an X-Ray or anything until then: obviously, the pain wasn't great-enough to hinder my life, but I lived with it for the majority of my life).
- Tore my rotator cuff or labrum at 12 (as symptoms from both are roughly the same, never got it checked out or fixed)
- Beating Cancer at 21
- Writing exams with my hand in a cast, due to slipping and falling, breaking a bone in my right hand (in 2011).
- Getting a large part of my body tattooed, some on horribly painful spots
- Actively playing sports throughout all of this

I would say that I'm far from a softie

As mentioned above, I never got mine fixed and for the first 3 years or so after I hurt it, literally 2 or 3 throws in succession would just cause an excessive, searingly-hot pain and I had 0 strength in that arm.

I could throw harder and farther when I was 11, than I ever have since.

Was a blessing though; was moved from the OF to 1B and I became a much better ballplayer as a result!

And don't get me started just how brutal an 81 game NBA season is. Top athletes in the world at an incredible size knocking the crap out of each other with ZERO protection.

When Gary Sheffield needed constant cortisone shots in his arm just so he could swing a bat with proper, fluid motion, that tells a lot.

As to your NBA comment, that's why you don't see big, heavy guys in the league anymore; can't keep up with the pace and can injure themselves as a result.
