Burrow, Higgins, & Chase's Deals

If Burrow becomes the highest paid player in NFL history, then Chase does it for the wide receivers, then the Bengals will have trouble putting together a complete team. I just wish to see someone say, "I'm going to take less, so as to not handicap the team and put winning first." I know that may just be me -- I have a doctorate but spent my entire life years working for nonprofits at low salaries without health care because I believe in what I am doing for others. If the Bengals are handicapped for years to pay a few players, then that helps only a few while many (fans, other players) pay the price. How much land does a man need?

People talk about Mahomes' deal because it was so long which gave it lots of flexibility while lasting so long that the back end would eventually be well below market value, but he still became the highest paid player in NFL history when he signed his deal.

You're working for non-profit and take less salary because they are non-profit, but also you can work at your career for almost your entire life.

NFL players are working for 31 multi-billionaires and 1 multi-billion dollar trust in a for-profit business that is making huge sums of money off actively burning away the players body's ability to function, and being able to work for 10 years is already considered a very long career assuming fading ability or health don't make it end much sooner.

Congrats on doing good with your life, and thanks, but your situation isn't theirs. Never blame players for trying to get all the money they've earned in their very short careers. You can disagree with wanting to pay someone that amount, or laugh at unrealistic expectations, but never judge them for wanting to get paid for generating billions and billions of dollars in profit for people.
