Why would we draft a player who started only 5 games, in 5 years of college, with only 30 some carries his last 2 seasons?  And in the 6th round?  It is so frustrating watching KC win the SB with a 7th round RB, who had a ton of starts and carries in college.  There are so many of these RBs every year.

KC is not tiers above us in drafting, they are stratospheres above us.

The craziest thing of all is that we could have had many of their key players:

We chose John Ross over Mahomes
We chose Carmen over Creed Humphrey
We chose 6 draft picks over Trey Smith.
We could have signed Thuney before KC.

No doubt an excuse can be made for any of these...

And sure our #1 and #5 draft picks are great.  We have done well at the top of the 2nd round.  But are these really unexpected by any team?

We have hit on some 2nd tier players that have done well in free agency.

But we have been horrendous in oline drafting for a decade.

Outside of the #65 rated guard (Volson), and one good year TE (CJ) our draft picks from #4-7 have been beyond terrible since... 2013 and Rex Burkhead? SMH.

Our cute and quaint smallest scouting department in the league is bottom tier when it comes to the draft.

Sorry for the rant....

Your premise is right but your examples aren’t free of debate. Absolutely correct KC has drafted exceptionally better than us and a bunch of teams. Lots of teams missed on Mahomes. Lots of teams missed on Creed. By the same token lots of teams missed on Tee Higgins. Lots of teams missed on some free agents we’ve signed. You’ve alluded to some.

But really the bottom line and let’s cut to the chase. The offensive line developing and evaluating and lack thereof in drafting and securing free agents has been pathetic. I’m sure there’s a lot of reasons for it but it’s hurt. Winning a Super Bowl needs a lot things to succeed. We came ridiculously close last year and this years champ the Chiefs barely got by us . I’m not a buyer in the KC running backs success is tied to them. It’s their OL. We’ve got a lot going for the franchise right now. But the OL got us 10 straight wins and the team has been in the top 4 in the NFL two straight years. We saw a few years ago KC fall short with a poor OL. They fixed it and yet have lost 3-4 from us. It’s hard.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.
