Is It Possible To Beat ISIS?

ISIS also seems like an ideology, as opposed to a set organization, so when one set of fighters die, there will be a new group growing up to take their place.

Will they start attacking us when we lay-off a bit and draw-out of those areas?

Short of nuking Syria and Iraq and turning that whole area into a wasteland, is it even possible to defeat ISIS?

ISIL defeats themselves by their extremism. Only desperate people will ally themselves with extremists. The only way we can lose is to give in to fear and start acting foolishly. Foolishness on our part is defined on one extreme as completely ignoring them and on the other extreme as being overeager to send ground troops. I could pontificate on why sending ground troops at this point is foolish, but suffice it to say that the hit-and-run ambush has been successfully practiced in this region for over 4000 years and is their primary tactic.

Nuking anyone on this planet (outside of responding to a nuclear attack) will galvanize most of the world to the other sides' cause, whatever it may be. It is an extremist act and is an instant lose.
