Maybe my daughter (currently a 6th grader) is an anomaly, but she continued to excel with online schooling for over 2 years. She reads at a 12th grade level and is rated in the top 6% in the US in math and science for her grade level. Her mother is immuno-compromised twice over (cancer/dysautonomia), and we had no qualms about being cautious.
As far as masks in public spaces, I'm fine leaving it up to the business/property owner. Don't like the rules or risk ?...go elsewhere. I personally don't mind wearing a mask for a short period of time, as it gives my wife peace of mind. However, should some jerk come at me with a "protest cough" while wearing one, they'll find themselves on the floor.
