It didn't surprise me for the exact reasons you mention. That plus admitting that not only were you 100% wrong, but you hurled some very nasty accusations at the people who were correct. The whole Covid thing probably did more to damage faith in our government, ill-warranted as it was, than any other event in my lifetime.
