To get an idea: 
Hunter is involved in 2 cases, neither of which have started yet. 
One of the guys backing him has already spent 10m for Hunters Lawyers/legal fees and is tapping out now.

So even if you are truly innocent and it's a political game being played against you, you still have to have the money up front to CYA else you'll get hammered to the wall.

That's a bad example, though, because Hunter did illegal things and is playing at technicalities to get out of it.
