The biggest leap of judgment is that the usa is immune to the historically predicted decline of democracy.  I see us more like that guy saying he's not afraid of trying coke because he won't get addicted like other people. Or maybe it's more like that guy who says other people shouldn't drive dunk but he can because he's careful about it.
