We were talking about him saying he was going for a gun ban. Praising the supposed success of gun bans in other places isn't saying "this is what we are going to do." His commentary could just as easily be interpreted as saying "they were able to take action when faced with these travesties, we should as well". In the end, this is not saying he is going to ban firearms.
It should also be noted that Australia does not ban firearms. They are highly regulated, but they are not banned. Same for the UK, though even more regulated.
