Orthodox Jews Set Sights on N.J. Town and Angry Residents Resist
#4
I heard about something similar in New York in East Ramapo.

Orthodox Jews, who kids are mostly in private school, took over the school board and slashed the budget so that their taxes would go down. This then reduced the services offered to public school kids, who were primarily Black and Latino and low income. Kids had to take 5-6 years to graduate because they couldn't get enough classes in.

They then closed a school and tried to sell it to the Hasidic community for less than half what it was valued at.

The state ended up stepping in and blocking the sale.
