The hourly rate you need to afford a two-bedroom apartment in every state
#48
"In Washington state, fair market rent on a two-bedroom apartment is $1,203. That means a worker needs annual earnings of about $48,000 to afford that unit, or $23.13 per hour. Based on the state minimum wage, a worker would need 2.4 jobs full-time jobs to afford that. The real average renter wage in Washington is just $16.69, meaning a worker with an average-pay job needs 1.4 jobs to afford a two-bedroom place. In King and Snohomish counties, the region’s most expensive areas, the housing wage is much higher: $29.29."

So here is an example of making numbers say what you want from the article. They lay out the cost of a two bedroom apartment for a renter (One person) in Washington and that they would need to make 23.13 and hour to make it work. They say a minimum wage earner would have to work 2.4 jobs but go on to say the REAL average renter wage in the state is 16.69 much higher than the federal minimum wage (Hypothetical they are using to rally the troops). They aren't far off using the real average to making rent and that is based on a two bedroom apartment using a single salary to support it with the inflated average from counties like Snohomish. If it was a one bedroom I'd venture to guess it works out, or if they had two salaries paying for it with it's two bedrooms.
