This is why when a justice is set or thought to retire during a presidential election cycle, this makes it even more imperative for the Dems and Repubs to win the White House.

I'm not sure what the alternative is.  Whether it be justices or presidents, we seem to go in cycles.  People think things are going too liberal so they vote conservative.  When things get too conservative they vote liberal.

I know it's a generalization...but I think it holds true for the most part.
