Will Eifert be back vs Cowboys?
#10
I had numerous ankle injuries during my playing days, some severe and others not as bad. Truth is another week is not going to help the ankle heal any more than it already has. With most joint injuries the biggest obstacle is mentally.

On one occasion I had a very nagging ankle injury that was kind of like Eifert's I suppose. One of our local well known doctor's who I won't name (but consider to be a surgery factory) suggested I have surgery. Prior to doing so I sought the opinion of another local foot and ankle specialist who basically gave me a few different options, which ranged from doing nothing to surgery. I chose to do nothing because he said I couldn't do any more damage and it was essentially just a comfort thing - how much pain I could take.

I went back to my routine figuring I'd be very limited. After a full practice going very hard and essentially saying to myself "what the hell", for whatever reason the ankle joint loosened up and the pain for the most part went away. I have never had any additional problems other than some discomfort here and there. What changed I don't know, maybe it was just having the mental mindset to push through.

Not saying the Eifert injury is the same but he needs to put his head down and plow through the initial stages of getting back. It will take just getting immersed in the game to truly put it behind him. But staying out is not going to make it heal any more, he now just needs to get over the mental hurdle. It's time to start that process so he can be a valuable asset to his team as the season goes along.
