I wonder who's careers are benefiting from this? Are these news people being hired and promoted by news organizations because of access/connections? Are the politicos getting brought in because the administrations are hoping their family
relationships can leverage favor?

Obviously this doesn't prove any actual problems with conflicts of interest, but it's probably a safe assumption that one or both sides believe there's a benefit.
