Yeah, much like the electoral process to make the move away from first past the post, it's either state-by-state or an amendment. The big question is: which is more likely to happen?

This is exactly right. People who go into Washington all dead set on being the anti-politician will either go into the fold or be chewed up and spit out. People need to stop kidding ourselves, politicians are necessary. They understand the system, they get things done. The framers of our Constitution weren't a bunch of divinely inspired common folk, they were politicians. It's the way government works, has always worked, and will always work.
