Does Lying Matter? If So, How Much?

I am wondering how intentional this constant fuss over what Trump says is. It creates an environment in which Trump statements are never definitively false--just infinitely revisable and a matter of point of view.

They are what Trump "believed" at the moment he made them. So its ok to make such statements since they SEEM TRUE AT THE TIME to him. He is "honest" since he is not saying what seems false to him.

Best you've got then is that his statements SEEM FALSE to you. His opinion against yours--and no one elected you president.

At least one academic wrote a big piece saying this is a well worn political strategy and part of the Trump strategy - to sow confusion and distract while they loot the treasury and erode democracy. But, she is just a student of history and politics, what would she know?
JOHN ROBERTS: From time to time in the years to come, I hope you will be treated unfairly so that you will come to know the value of justice... I wish you bad luck, again, from time to time so that you will be conscious of the role of chance in life and understand that your success is not completely deserved and that the failure of others is not completely deserved either.
