I must be doing something right...

I don't think I'd even have to run.
My friend from City Council, more or less, implied he wanted to take his place, were he to vacate his position early.
Apparently Council can appoint replacements in such an event.
I was nearly speechless, but remained cool.
He said he wanted the seat to be in good hands.
I nearly shed a tear.
I'm not sure quite how to feel.
I'm honored, of course.
It's just odd to consider the idea of a man that has done this public service for so many years to pretty much suggest handing it to a novice like me.
It's an "At Large" seat, as well.
I'm floored.

This could be good in the sense that it gives you more time to explore your alliances and learn about what you actually need to do in the role as opposed to all the "busy" work of campaigning. It could also be a hornets nest - hate to say that but just trying to be realistic. Why is this guy leaving? Is the council a cluster? Try to find out as much as you can from everyone you can to protect your reputation and your sanity.
JOHN ROBERTS: From time to time in the years to come, I hope you will be treated unfairly so that you will come to know the value of justice... I wish you bad luck, again, from time to time so that you will be conscious of the role of chance in life and understand that your success is not completely deserved and that the failure of others is not completely deserved either.
