The discussion is about when life begins. The life that's being discussed is that of a human being, not an individual sperm or egg, neither of which can become a human on it's own.
So...life (of a human being) begins at conception.
The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.
