I don't understand why people believe those skills translate well into civilian law enforcement. That's rhetorical BTW and I'm not too comfortable with it. 

They are not a pre req.
They are a result of being surrounded by it.

Perhaps I was not clear, as it happens more times than I like and is a reason I do not post often.
I was not suggesting that all the personnel I referred to were going to be IN law enforcement.
The largest portion will not be LEOs.
However, with the failing VA and little focus on mental health in this country, there will likely be more people who commit heinous acts with the knowledge they've gained through military experience.
Ergo, there needs to be equipment available to protect LEOs.

Don't get me wrong, I am uncomfortable with it, too.
It is just the world we live in.
