That was pretty stupid, and stubborn.  That said, the man took an expansion team in an era when it was hard to do, went the playoffs relatively quickly (in an era with fewer berths), and within 20 years made it to two Super Bowls.  Under his leadership, a whole brand new offensive scheme was developed (the West Coast), as well as the zone blitz defense.  He realized his folly with Walsh, and hired a very innovative Walsh disciple in Sam Wyche.  It was 34 seconds away from the promised land.  Paul also made some very productive trades....Bacon, Joiner, Brooks, etc.  Mike Brown does none of this.
