Feinstein has long had a contentious relationship with the Democratic Party in CA and can hardly be called a "hard-line leftist" simply because she supports Planned Parenthood, Unions, and isn't liked by conservative tax group (though she scores higher than the average Democrat).

Despite delegates not giving her their full support, she maintains popularity with voters.
