Trump continues to back aluminum and steel tariffs despite Republican fears

His role has always been that of a "closer". He just has to come in and say "let's do it". Smarter men work out the details and then he comes in to sign it. So when daddy hooks you up with $70m to buy real estate in 1970, you're able to let better men make money for you. You see yourself as a deal maker and hire a guy to write a book for you about making deals. In reality, your deal making is letting other people work out details and then just shaking some hands at the end. You then refuse the pay the person after the job is done and bank on being able to outlast the other in lawyer fees.

Eventually you get to the point where you have enough money that you start wanting to see your name in more places. So you start casinos and buy historic hotels and you run them into the ground because you honestly don't have the chops to run them. You get saved by bankruptcy and family money and eventually are able to market your showman ability into a TV deal. You're now a brand that represents business success, despite a decade of failure, because on TV you play a successful businessman. This means you can just sell your name to people for a fee.

And now we're in a position where our economy can be impacted directly by someone who has only had to just show up after everything was done. So we get these asinine claims that trade wars are "good and easy to win" and that tariffs only punish the other country. And it's not like there's discussions going on about this. Few people are made aware, and despite chief economic advisors saying it is an awful idea, you have the President getting on ***** twitter to make an ass out of himself and say these stupid ***** things, announcing harmful and thoughtless policy via social media.

Once beer prices go up, maybe his base will understand how this affects everything.
