The share of black voters in 2012 was 13% versus 12% in 2016. Black voters went 92% to Obama and 89% to Hillary. In 2008 they made up the same share (13%) and voted 95% in favor of Obama.
You can make the argument that some people voted for Obama based on race at first, but you can't make the same about Hillary and gender.
And I wasn't making the point that she got the lion's share of female votes, just that I am sure some people voted for her solely because she was a woman. Just like some voted against her simply because she was a woman.
But I am surprised the numbers were not larger.
