Sam Hubbard B
Poor Michael Johnson had to announce the very pick that’s here to replace him. Scouting Report: An edge player but not an edge burner, Hubbard is a face-up pass rusher who will win with power, motor and technique more than athleticism. He’s at his best twisting inside on stunts.
Malik Jefferson C+
Cincinnati, who traded up to draft Jefferson, loves developmental front-seven players—and presumably they see Jefferson as a potential running mate for Vontaze Burfict two or three years from now. It’s worth noting that Preston Brown and Vincent Rey will be free agents after this season.
Scouting Report: Once considered the top linebacker recruit in the nation, Jefferson didn’t live up to the hype at Texas. But he has the size and athleticism for the NFL, and he could eventually thrive if asked to play in a more structured system that allows him to run around and hit, rather than try to quarterback a defense and process a lot of info.
