I'm not aware how other religions are set up.  I'll just say that if there is a situation where a group of people have power/status ove other people there will be these kinds of abuses.

I am not defending these people in any way...at all. Period.  

I just do not think it is limited to one religion.  Maybe not the scope of it (as you say) but not totally limited.
