Teams miss on picks too. And O line has become much more of a crap shoot since college teams all seem to play the spread offense where lineman aren't expected to sustain their blocks as long as in a pro style offense. There's a reason teams like Iowa, Stanford and Wisconsin tend to keep churning out pro ready O linemen. 

The drafting of those two was for sound reasons. We knew Smith and Whitworth didn't have too many ears left. Good teams plan for those events. The plans go awry when neither pick pans out. And for the most part, fans are not smarter than you think.
