Marvin Doesn't Expect Another Year

There are probably 50 reasons why this team struggles with injuries being just one of them. Yeah, all teams struggle with them. Our team just doesn't provide a decent talent pool for the 'plug and play' aspect needed to survive an injury setback.

The Free Agency fiasco: failure to retain the ones we developed, along with failure to sign quality players that other teams have developed. The reliance on the draft to fill close to all needs has proven to be a huge gamble.

Questionable player development coupled with a CBA that limits contact time for more productive practices is a source for struggle. Include strength and conditioning with that CBA list of restrictions. Having lower quality players exacerbates this and previously mentioned problems.

Position coaching that doesn't seem to produce much beyond average performance, if even that. A few more eyes on the scouting group would likely yield a better candidate to fill our need(s).

All of this bubbles under the things that get most of the press. Nebulous at best.

16 years of Marvin Lewis has been good, bad, and heading towards ugly faster than most would've believed possible. But as sure as I'm sitting here typing this, I truly believe Marvin didn't get the team where it is now all on his own. He had help. With that said, if you put them all in a bag, I don't know who comes out first other than Mike Brown. He has never been, or will be, football-savvy enough to choose the kind of coach, player, manager, and medical specialist that knows how to produce a winning football program. Nothing new about this. If Marvin stays, then no surprise. If Marvin resigns, not much of a surprise. Marvin getting fired would be an eye-opener, though.
Some say you can place your ear next to his, and hear the ocean ....
