The original makes it sound like Republicans are selfish, and I do not believe that blanket statement is factual. I think the concept of personal responsibility plays a huge role.

Sometimes Republicans ignore roadblocks in the way for others. Sometimes Democrats see more options available to help than really exist.

Republicans use that tough love bullshit as an excuse to be selfish.  It reminds me of when Judge Smails said, "I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them."
