No, you took away your freedom to not participate.  I know people who aren't married because they have issues with the system itself and don't feel the government-granted benefits are worth falling in line with a somewhat forced flawed system.

No one forced you to get a government-sanctioned marriage, but I'd wager you did it for some reason you see as being "worth" being the government's biotch.
