Trump is producing his own Independence Day Celebration
#10
So I missed (darn it) Trump's "speech".

Apparently it was an 8th grade history lesson read very poorly (low energy?) and that's it.

But I did learn something new when I read that Trump told us that the US took over British airports during the Revolutionary war. Mellow

Quote:President Donald Trump read most of his Independence Day speech from a prepared text, but stumbled on his history at one point: He talked about airports during the American Revolution.

"Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over airports," Trump said of the fighting force created by the Continental Congress in
1775.

There was no air travel in 18th Century America.

The full riff:
Quote:"In June of 1775, the Continental Congress created a unified Army out of the Revolutionary Forces encamped around Boston and New York, and named after the great George Washington, commander in chief. The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown.

"Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant."

One other note: The battle at Fort McHenry that inspired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner" took place during the War of 1812, not the American Revolution.

As @kendallybrown points out, Trump, while struggling to read in this clip, claims that the American military "took over the airports" during a battle that took place well before airplanes were even invented

Either he can't read (likely), wrote the speech himself (doubtful) or the speech writer deliberately put in false info just to see if Trump would even know the difference (possible?).

It's like watching Anchorman:  He just reads whatever the teleprompter says.  And he reads it like it's the first time he's ever read the words...or seen the English language.

At least it wasn't a political rally (despite all the donor VIP tickets handed out to fill up the seats) and he didn't brag about himself.

No, instead he made himself look like a moron.

Although the MAGA crowd that I'm seeing on Twitter and online seem to think it was "great" because he brought the true meaning of the Holiday...the troops...to the forefront.

So, more morons. Smirk
