I do not believe that you knew about "the effect" at all, and judging by your insistence about how silly his comments were, I'm unconvinced you understand it now, either.
My issue with Christ-y stuff would be the same as your issue with sciency stuff if not for the fact that the sciency stuff is actually true.
The Bible also mentions the nonexistent firmament, but I understand educated and knowledgeable Christians know that all the transparently false things the Bible says about the universe don't count (except the no evolution part) and only the few things it kinda got right really matter.
